EASY ON THE EYE

Missing a company’s bus at midnight and commuting in a taxi, is all because of my insensitive team leader and his sluggish work habits. He is really a…

“Here is your stop, sir” the taxi driver interrupted my thoughts.

“Yeah, how much?” I asked him.

He checked his meter and said “54 rupees.”

Looking at my 100 rupee note he said, “Give me 4 rupees change.”

Without even checking, hastily I replied, “I don’t have!”

That moment another taxi came and a woman in black sari got down with a handbag, from which something fell down. She started walking, without paying anything to the driver. It was strange!

“I also don't have change, give me 50 rupees, if you have?” the taxi driver tried to grab my attention.

“Okay, okay! Keep the change.”

I walked ahead. It was her lipstick which was fallen down. I screamed “Excuse me”, she didn’t hear.

I took few big steps and chased her, and screamed again, “Excuse me...”

She turned, her eyes were moist. Her teardrop was making its way towards her cheek. She quickly wiped her tears and said “Yes.”

Her eyes had a sparkle of innocence filled with pain. I gave her lipstick back. She checked her bag, it was torn from the bottom corner. She snatched it from my hand and left.

It was dark and no streetlights were there to guide her. Something was wrong; she wasn't safe on this street. So I went behind her and suddenly a Jaguar came and halted near her. She sat in the car and in no time the car disappeared in the darkness.

With numerous thoughts, I went back to the taxi stand, as I realized I forgot my laptop bag in the taxi.

The taxi driver was standing there with my laptop bag. With a cunning smile, he said, “She must be too costly, right?”

“What?”

“I mean this laptop must be too costly” teasingly he said.

“Yes, thank you for returning it.” I started walking and out of curiosity turned around, and asked him “What made you think like that about her?”

With lust in his eyes, he stated, “Didn't you notice her black glittering sari, dark eye make-up and loud red lipstick.”
